Creating Choices for Children (CCC)
BYLAWS


Our Mission
Creating Choices for Children [CCC] is the independent parent organization for children with special needs, ages 3-21, in Caldwell/West Caldwell. Our goal is to provide information, education, support and advocacy for the parents of our towns and beyond. We seek to provide community-based learning through education, recreation, and peer socialization.

CCC will:

a) Foster Educational & Recreational Programs for the parents of special needs children as well as share ideas and broaden parent’s knowledge.

b) Encourage parent participation as partners in their children’s education.

c) Promote communication among parents, educators, board members, and the community regarding special education issues.

Through our efforts, we believe our children will flourish.



ORGANIZATIONAL GUIDELINES


A. The Organization shall be noncommercial, nonsectarian, and nonpartisan. Neither the name of the Organization nor the names of any members in their official capacities shall be used in connection with any commercial concern, any partisan interest or for any purpose not appropriately related to promotions of the Goals of the Organization.

B. The Organization shall not, directly or indirectly, participate in or intervene (in any way, including the publishing or distribution of statements) in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office.

C. The Organization shall work with the schools to provide quality education for all children and shall seek to participate in the decision-making process establishing school policy recognizing that the legal responsibility to make decisions has been delegated by the people to the Board of Education.

D. The Organization may cooperate with other organizations and agencies concerned with child welfare, but persons representing the Organization in such matters shall make no commitments that bind the Organization.

E. Criticisms of individuals shall not be voiced at any public meeting of the Organization.

F. Upon the dissolution of this organization, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code, or shall be distributed to the federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose.



LEADERSHIP

The parent leadership of CCC shall be an Executive Board consisting of at least one (maximum of two) representatives from the following;

1) Preschool Disabled
2) Elementary K-5
3) Middle School Grades 6-8
4) High School Grades 9-12
5) Parent or Guardian of Out-of-District Placed
6) Parent or Guardian of Home-Based Program
7) Non-Special needs parent or guardian

Membership may be obtained by any individual who subscribes to the objectives and basic policies of this Organization, subject to compliance with the provisions of the bylaws. Membership in this Organization shall be available without regard to race, color, creed or national origin.


MEETINGS

There will be four scheduled topic meetings for each school year and shall be listed on the school calendar. CCC leader, (s) will meet no later than May 31st of the school year to discuss topic selections with the Director of Special Education, for the upcoming school year to agree and confirm the upcoming school year dates for such scheduled meetings.

Topic Meetings will be listed on the school calendar, BOE Website, local TV channels, CCC website and newspaper publications.

CCC/Outreach meetings will be held every second Wednesday of the month unless otherwise published.


FUNDING

Funding for CCC will be generated through, membership dues, grants, kind donations as well as fundraising events. Funding will be to support children with special needs in our community for both educational and recreational purposes. CCC will work collaboratively with the Special Education Director and community organizations in promoting and developing programs for funding.
